Students hit roads to awaken conscience of district admn

Various sections of society, including singers, poets, artists, students, NGOs, residents and administration officials, among others, have decided to join hands in order to make Buddha Nullah pollution-free on January 27.

This would be the second such event being held to curb pollution menace in Buddha Nullah. Poet Jaswant Zaffar would be again campaigning under the initiative “Aan Milo Dariyao” to sensitise people and bring them together to stop polluting Budhha Nullah which has lead to increase of cancer cases.

In a series of events, students of different schools and colleges, including Ramgarhia School for Boys, Partap College of Education, Bhai Randhir Singh Academy, Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology formed a human chain today to spread awareness regarding high level of pollution in the nullah. Students briefed residents on pollution and asked them to be a part of the initiative.

More than one lakh people would participate in the event on January 27 and raise a collective voice against the pollution of the nullah which was once a clean source of water.

“Earlier, the Life Line Foundation had organised marathon. However, realising the importance of saving water and gravity of the situation, more than 40 NGOs have joined hands to be part of the event,” said Zaffar.

He said efforts were being made to connect people from different sections of society for a common cause.
