Mandi Ahmedgarh/ Raikot/ Payal, June 6

The police remained busy making proactive security measures to prevent any untoward situation on account of apprehended protests by activists of radical Sikh organisations during the observance of the anniversary of Operation Blue Star on Thursday.

Circle officers at Ahmedgarh, Raikot and Payal supervised the arrangements. Combing operation to check presence of intrusion of strangers, deployment of forces at venues of functions related with observance and organisation of nakas at strategic points were the preventive measures taken.

Police personnel, supervised by Subeg Singh, DSP Ahmedgarh; Gurmit Singh Tejey, DSP Raikot and Surjit Singh Dhanoa, DSP Payal, remained on toes making proactive security arrangements. The administration had received information that Sikh outfits would be organising a paath and bhog at majority of gurdwaras situated in localities falling under Ludhiana, Ludhiana rural, Sangrur and Khanna police districts.

Though no information was received about the probable confrontation among Sikh radicals and hardliners of saffron outfits, the administration had initiated intensive proactive security arrangements well in advance.

Amandeep Kaur, SHO Sadar Ahmedgarh, said: “Police personnel deployed on nakas were advised to be extra cautious while dealing with occupants of vehicles interrupted on link roads and highways. Women cops were deployed to frisk ladies in case of need.” —OC
