Police arrest 2 for selling LPG on black market

LUDHIANA: The police have arrested two people allegedly involved in black marketing of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).

The police have arrested two people allegedly involved in black marketing of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG). The accused have been identified as Deepak Kumar of Basant Nagar in Daba area and Pankaj Kumar of Satguru Nagar in Shimlapuri area of Ludhiana.

The police have also recovered three domestic LPG cylinders, a smaller cylinder, an electronic scale and a pump used for transferring gas from domestic LPG cylinders to smaller cylinders.

The accused were arrested from Lohara Road in Daba area of Ludhiana following a tip-off.

Sub-Inspector Daljit Singh said an informer had passed information that some people were involved in black marketing of LPG gas in Daba area. “Following this, we immediately carried out a raid and arrested the accused from a house on Lohara Road. The accused have confessed that they have been involved in this illegal business,” said the Sub-Inspector.

“The accused used to shift gas from domestic LPG cylinders in smaller cylinders with the help of a pump and then sell smaller gas cylinders in black market on higher rates,” added Daljit Singh.

The police have registered a case under Section 7 of the EC Act against the accused.

It is pertinent to mention that gas mafia has been involved in black marketing of LPG cyclinders at a large scale in various parts of the city.
