Sunil Arora, Election Commissioner of India, and an alumnus of the DAV College visited his Alma meter here today.

He said, “Education system must have an organic relationship with job and entrepreneurship to open new vistas of employment for the youth.”

Addressing the gathering during the annual prize distribution function held here at DAV College today, the commissioner emphasised on the need to diversify education portfolios in educational institutions and said it was high time that educational institutions must plan the visits of students to IT and manufacturing hubs of the country to give them overview of this important sector.

He said this would help the students in choosing their careers wisely and also advised the students to plan their careers in time and map down what they want to do in life.

Sharing his own experiences and memories as student in the college, he said, “The students need to be energetic and should have the thirst to read more and more. As world has got modernise and people are getting high-tech, we have digital libraries and e-books.”

Education today is not only confined to social transformation and individual development but it’s rather a mean of human empowerment. Education never goes waste and it does pay in life, he added.

Talking about the growing interest of youth to shift abroad, he said, “Youth should accept the challenges of the future and play the role of the creator of the country. West see India as an opportunity, while people of India are looking for opportunities in the West. Citing various examples he said, opportunities do not come by themselves but you have to find opportunities yourself”.

Striking an emotional chord with the students, Arora recalled the days spend in college as lecturer. He was also presented the frame of his article written in 1975 for the college magazine.

Chief Electoral Officer Dr S Karuna Raju, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, president of local Committee Justice (Retd) NK Sud, Principal DAV College Dr SK Arora, among others, were also present on the occasin.
