Members of the Gurjar community, all supporters of Pradesh Congress president Sachin Pilot, on Thursday held up traffic in parts of Dausa and Karauli district and damaged buses, demanding that Pilot be made CM. They raised slogans in their leaders’ favour.

“It was owing to Pilot that the Congress won the byelections earlier this year, wresting the Alwar and Ajmer Lok Sabha seats and the Mandalgarh Assembly seat from the BJP with huge margins,” pointed out Himmat Singh, a senior leader associated with the Gurjar Arakashan Sangarsh Samiti, who joined the Congress recently. “The protesters blocked the national highway at Patoli, Devlen, Pancholi, Khuri and Gajipur, burnt tyres after smashed windows of bus at Patoli,” the Dausa SP said.

In a tweet, Pilot appealed to the supporters to place trust in the AICC leadership. “I appeal to everyone to maintain calm and keep discipline. I fully trust the decision of Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi and will abide by it,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Kheenvsar MLA of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party Hanuman Beniwal declared his three MLAs would support the Congress only if Pilot was nominated CLP leader. “Pilot is the son of a farmer and the RLP is committed to peasants’ cause,” he said.
