Members of the unemployed Physical Training Instructors (PTI), Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) and Master of Physical Education (MPEd) Union, Punjab, on Sunday held a protest outside the residence of School Education Minister OP Soni.
The protesters burnt their degrees as a mark of protest as the state government had failed to accept their demands. The protesting teachers met OP Soni and submitted a memorandum of their demands to him.
Keshav Kohli, president of the union, said, “The teachers, who have been assigned the work of teaching physical education, are not eligible for this job. We are sitting idle and seeking jobs. We have been fighting for recruitment of physical education teachers. There are number of government schools having no physical education teachers.”
“Our members have crossed their age limit for jobs and have come here to burn their degrees. We have been assured of a meeting with panel on January 28,” he added.
