Phillauria , Harphool conferred with Kewal Vig Award

JALANDHAR: On the 27th death anniversary of former journalist Kewal Vig, noted Punjabi short story writer Mohan Lal Philauria and Punjabi poet Harphool Singh on Thursday were conferred with ‘Kewal Vig Award-2019’ as the best writer and the best poet, respectively.

On the 27th death anniversary of former journalist Kewal Vig, noted Punjabi short story writer Mohan Lal Philauria and Punjabi poet Harphool Singh on Thursday were conferred with ‘Kewal Vig Award-2019’ as the best writer and the best poet, respectively. The award function was held at Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall here.

Jatinder Mohan Vig, chairman of the Kewal Vig Foundation, welcomed the guests and said that the award was instituted in 1994, in the memory of Kewal Vig, the founder editor of Punjabi magazine ‘Janta Sansar’. Noted singers Pammi Hanspal and Surinder Gulshan presented ghazals of Harphool Singh. Prof Devinder Mand and Prof Kulwant Singh Aujla read their papers respectively.

Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, DGP, Punjab Armed Battalions, was the chief guest. He said writers and poets played a significant role in making ideal society. Kulwant Singh, ADC Jalandhar, Ramesh Chander, Ambassador-IFS (retd.), BK Virdi, Joint Director GST, Chetan Singh, Director Languages Deptt (retd), Rachhpal Singh Pal, Punjabi poet, spoke on the occasion and paid tributes to Kewal Vig. Shiv Kanwar Singh Sandhu thanked all the guests. He said Kewal Vig had passion for Punjabi language and literature adding that he was a true votary of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat. So far, 57 personalities of literature have received the award.
