The Public Health Engin-eering (PHE) Workers’ Welfare Association on Monday demanded release of wages pending for 60 months.
Hundreds of daily wagers protested against the department and alleged that successive governments had neglected the workers who are playing an important role in ensuring supply of drinking water.
Addressing the protesters, Bakshi Singh, president of the association, also demanded expediting regularisation process of daily rated workers.
“The pending salary should be released immediately. It is very unfortunate that daily wagers are being deprived of their rights,” said Singh.
He also demanded that one member from the family of deceased daily wagers be given job in the department on compassionate grounds and all SRO 43 cases lying pending with the office of the chief engineer be given sanction.
The association also demanded compensation of Rs 5 lakh for daily rated workers, who have retired on January 1. Other demands include providing safety materials, such as torch, umbrella and raincoat, to the duty men.
