Lectures at GNDU mark Martyrdom Day

To commemorate the martyrdom of fifth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Arjan Dev, the Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib conducted special lecture session on its campus here today.

Titled “Shahidi sarot te shahadat da darohar panjva Nanak”, the lecture was delivered by Dr Balkar Singh. Prof Ajaib Singh Brar, Vice-Chancellor, GNDU, chaired the lecture. Dr Balkar Singh said though martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev could be studied in a historical perspective, it also needed to be studied in its religious and spiritual meaning. He said, “Martyrdom as a concept and action is equal to or can be equated to spirituality itself.”

Prof Ajaib Singh Brar said, “The concept of martyrdom is an immense source of inspiration. It has to be understood and felt in the modern social and academic context.” Dr Amarjit Singh proposed a vote of thanks. Prof Amar Singh, Prof N Muthumohan, Prof JK Dhillon, Dr Shahi Bala, Dr Kehar Singh, Dr JS Sabar, Dr Bikram Singh Ghuman, Dr Kulwant Singh, Dr Inderjit Singh and Prof Baldev Singh were also present on the occasion.
