Phagwara, February 6

On a complaint lodged by Himani, a resident of New Model Town, here, the police have registered a case under Section 498-A of the IPC against her husband Inder Phillaura on the charges of torturing his wife physically and mentally to fulfil their demands of dowry.

The victim in her complaint stated that she got married with him on September 26, 2014, and she had been tortured by her in-laws for dowry.

She said her father first gave Rs 10 lakh in June 2015 to purchase a new car to her husband but he spent the money on his own and purchased a car on loan.

Later, she delivered a baby boy on December 30, 2015. Following this, her in-laws took Rs 2 lakh from them for delivery expenses. Later, they took Rs 7 lakh for the Lohri celebrations.

The victim alleged that her parents spent a huge amount on her marriage and afterwards to fulfil their demands. But now, her husband demanded Rs 50 lakh from her parents to settle in Canada with his family, which was not tolerable and beyond the limit of her parents.

ASP Simran Kaur investigated the matter and a case was registered against her husband Inder Phillauria, who is still at large. — OC
