Race for Congress ticket hots up among leaders

The race for Congress ticket for the upcoming Phagwara Assembly constituency byelections has begun among party leaders. The seat fell vacant after the election of Som Parkash as MP in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

After a meeting of supporters of Former Minister Joginder Singh Maan on Saturday, it was the turn of supporters of an IAS officer Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, another aspirant for ticket, to hold a large scale meeting in his support at Phagwara on Tuesday. Supporters of Maan, including Block Congress Committee (U) president Sanjeev Bugga and Block Congress Committee (R) president Daljit Raju have urged the high command to allot party ticket to Maan.

Meanwhile, the other faction has come forward to support Dhaliwal. The group held a support in his support. Congress leaders such as Padam Dev Sudhir (Nikka), Munish Parbhakar, Jatinder Vermani, Sangeeta Gupta, Darshan Lal Dharamshot, and Avinash Gupta have said they would support the leader who would get the party ticket. — OC
