New Delhi, March 6

With Indian drug law intelligence and anti-smuggling enforcement agencies terming the nexus between narcotics smuggling and terrorism “a potent threat” to national security, United Nations’ (UN) International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) has asked the countries around the world to provide increased assistance to Afghanistan in curbing poppy cultivation.

Speaking at function here, officials from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of India have claimed that they have seized over 200 kg of heroin from Jammu and Kashmir during August-January, mostly smuggled through LoC. DRI Principal Director-General Debi Prasad Dash said, this was direct the result of rise in the poppy-growing area in Afghanistan. — TNS
