To bring down the power bills of schools and make students realise the value of saving energy, the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has adopted some government schools in the district. Electrical equipment and appliances, including fans and lights, will be replaced with the ones which consume less energy in these schools.
Anupam Nanda from the PEDA said not only would this initiative help in saving electricity, but students would also be made aware about the importance of saving energy. They would be told about the need for using electrical appliances and gadgets that consume less power. “Energy conservation is the need of the hour, not only for lowering the power bills, but also to prevent global warming. Being the future of the country, children need to be told about it,” she said.
As of now, the programme would be implemented in 18 government schools, he added.
