Srinagar, March 22

PDP vice-president Abdul Rehman Veeri on Friday said the clubbing of polling booths for the parliamentary elections would have an adverse impact on the voter turnout.

“The clubbing of polling booths should not be done and we had also apprised the Election Commission team of its adverse effects,” Veeri said during a press conference at the party headquarters here.

“It will affect the voter turnout as people will not be able to travel to far-off areas to cast their vote,” he said.

Due to the security concerns, the authorities are planning to club some polling booths in the Valley.

Veeri suggested that polling booths should be setup as was done in the last Lok Sabha elections. He said the withdrawal of security cover to political workers would hit the campaigning. “If anyone’s PSO is withdrawn, how will they do political activities? The responsibility for their safety and security lies with the government.” — TNS
