Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officers have decided to protest against the government’s inability to give them their dues by observing a pen-down strike across the state on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the officers posted in Ferozepur and Zira subdivisions observed a strike onMonday as well.

The decision to protest was taken in a meeting of the PCS Officers’ Association held in Zira on Monday afternoon. The officers are showing resentment for the incidents of violence against them and their illegal confinement at several places by various organisations protesting against the government. In the past six months, there have been at least 10 incidents where PCS officers have been targeted by protesters.

Talking to The Tribune, Rajat Oberai, general secretary of the association said: “A protest with officers wearing black badges will be observed across the state on Wednesday. We are giving the state government a seven-day ultimatum and if nothing is done to meet our demands, we will be taking further necessary action,” he added.

They demanded that instead of giving them one security guard, two should be attached with each officer. These officers also rued that they were not being given due emoluments and allowances by the state government. — TNS
