PAU bags award for soilless farming

The 14th annual workshop of the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on plasticulture engineering technology was held at the Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora (Uttrakhand), from December18-19.

The Best Centre Award has been awarded to Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana. The agricultural varsity has been awarded for outstanding contribution in the development of technologies, particularly soilless cultivation in protected environment.

The PAU centre has become a pioneer in developing soilless cultivation technology of growing cucumber on commercial scale, development of slow sand filter for leachate reuse in protected cultivation and developing rooftop/terrace vegetable nutrition garden model for urban and peri-urban population.

The extension material developed in Hindi and Punjabi language video was highly appreciated. The award was received by Dr KG Singh, Senior Research Engineer and Principal Investigator, along with Dr Angrej Singh, Assistant Agronomist and Co-PI in this project.

The Head of the Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Dr Rajan Aggarwal, congratulated and appreciated consistent efforts made by Dr Singh and his team in this regard.

PAU Vice-chancellor Dr BS Dhillon, Director Research Dr Navtej Singh Bains and Director Extension Education and Dean COAE&T Dr JS Mahal congratulated the scientists for bringing laurels to the varsity.
