Relatives of the deceased Amanpal Kaur (32) on Wednesday staged a protest outside Talwandi Sabo police station by blocking traffic on all four routes from here.
A resident of Subha Khera village in Haryana, Amanpal Kaur got married at Behman Kaur Singhwala village 13 years ago.
A few days ago she died after consuming poison. On the statement of the deceased’s parents, a case was registered against the in-laws of the deceased, but irked over the police for not arresting the accused, residents of the deceased’s native village on Wednesday staged the protest.
SAD MLA from Kalianwali in Haryana, Balkaur Singh, was also present during the protest.
While addressing the protesters, speakers said despite that the Talwandi Sabo police have registered a case on the statement of Sukhdev Singh and even arrested Pinder Kaur, the police were not arresting the remaining two accused.
Irked over which residents of Subha Khera village and adjoining villages staged a protest at Talwandi Sabo, they said.
They also claimed that they repeatedly met the Talwandi Sabo DSP and he had assured that they would arrest the accused by Tuesday afternoon, but as the police failed to do so, they blocked the road.
DSP Kuldeep Singh and Rama SHO Manoj Kumar tried to pacify the protesters, but they remained adamant that the SSP should come at the spot and give assurance.
Later, in the evening, SP (D) Swaran Singh reached the spot and assured that they would give the case to the CIA from Talwandi Sabo and the accused would be arrested soon, after which the protesters lifted the dharna.
A few days ago, Amanpal Kaur ended her life by consuming some poisonous substance. Deceased’s father Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Subha Khera village, had lodged a complaint with the Talwandi Sabo police that his daughter Amanpal Kaur was harassed by her husband Pinder Singh, mother-in-law Shinder Kaur and paternal father-in-law Kulwant Singh.
He has also stated that they did not even allow her to meet them and gave poisonous substance to his daughter.
