The police on Saturday arrested a businessman of Model Town in the city for allegedly raping a girl on the pretext of marrying her.

The accused has been identified as Vikas Garg of Model Town, who was absconding since June 13 after a rape case was registered against him.

Sources said the police team on Saturday arrested Garg from the BBMB turn. Satish Vats, DSP, headquarters, said a girl, in her complaint to the police on June 13, said she had come in contact with Garg in 2010.

He started talking to her on phone and arranged a job for her in an office at the Radhey-Krishna complex in 2014, she said.

She further alleged that he had been raping her for seven to eight years and had also captured some objectionable videos and photos of her. She said Garg took her to Mehandipur Balaji in Rajasthan in 2018 and married her, but did not take her to his house.

Garg, along with his wife, had lodged a case against the girl for demanding money in June. She was arrested with Rs50,000 on June 11. The court had released her on bail the police had not followed norms while arresting her. — TNS
