The process of filing nomination papers for the upcoming panchayat elections in the Dera Bassi Block ended here today.

Wednesday, being the last day of filing of nominations, saw a mad rush of candidates of various political parties at cluster offices. A total of 452 candidates filed their nomination papers for the posts of sarpanch while 1,381 candidates filed their nominations for the posts of panch.

Officials said the scrutiny of nomination papers would be held on December 20. Candidates could withdraw their nominations till 3 pm on December 21 and election symbols would be allotted the same day.

They said the voting would be held from 8 am to 4 pm on December 30. The results would be declared in the evening on the same day.

Huge rush witnessed in Kharar block

Kharar: There was a fair-like atmosphere on the last day of filing nomination papers for the panchayat elections in the Kharar block here today. Notably, elections for 140 sarpanches and 862 panches will be held in the Kharar block. Kharar SDM Vinod Kumar Bansal is the overall in-charge of the elections. He has appointed 17 assistance returning officers for this purpose. Bansal said till Tuesday, 206 candidates had filed their papers for the posts of sarpanch and 580 for the posts of panch. According to information, data of candidates who had filed their nomination papers on Wednesday was yet to be compiled. According to an estimate, a large number of candidates had filed their nomination papers on Wednesday.

Today, a huge rush was witnessed at the Kharar Municipal Council office and the Tehsil Complex where candidates were filing nomination papers.
