The process for filing nomination papers for the upcoming gram panchayat elections, which are scheduled to be held on December 30, would start from tomorrow and continue till December 19.
Giving details, Paramjit Singh, SDM, Dera Bassi, said candidates could file their nomination papers at the designated offices, which had been decided under the supervision of 10 cluster officers.
The SDM said out of the 93 gram panchayats, elections for 91 sarpanches and 603 panches would be held in a peaceful and transparent manner. He said nomination papers could be filed between 11 am and 3 pm daily till December 19.
He said the elections for two gram panchayats of Guru Nanak Colony and Daffarpur village will not be held as their tenure would end in 2020.
He stated that the scrutiny of nomination papers would be held on December 20, while the withdrawal would be conducted at 3 pm on December 21. Election symbols would be allotted the same day.
SDM Paramjit Singh said the voting would be held from 8 am to 4 pm on December 30. The results would be declared the same evening.
As per the official data, about 86,288 voters will exercise their right to franchise at 118 polling booths in the Dera Bassi block. Out of this, 46,111 voters are male while 40,177 are female.
The officials said as many as 10 cluster offices had been decided where candidates could file their nomination papers.
They said the candidates in fray could file their nominations at BDO offices in Dera Bassi, PWD office at Mubarikpur, MC library, Dera Bassi, Municipal Council offices at Dera Bassi and Lalru.
For the first time, 50 per cent of the panchayat seats have been reserved for women candidates, the officials said.
