Cabinet minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa claimed that the Pakistan government had already started construction of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor road on its side of the border, adding that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had yet to lay even a single brick.

The NHAI, which falls under the Surface Transport Ministry, has been tasked with constructing the corridor infrastructure.

Randhawa is also MLA from Dera Baba Nanak.

“Yesterday I visited a location near the international border. I climbed atop a BSF tower, housing a check post, and was amazed to see the road leading from the Darbar Sahib (Kartarpur) gurdwara till the international border almost complete. This means the Pakistan government has already started work in right earnest. On our side, the NHAI has done absolutely nothing. Prime Minister Modi, in his speech at today’s rally in Gursdaspur, took credit for opening the corridor. What is the use of taking credit when the Union government is not willing to play ball. Even the NHAI officials, who accompanied me, were astonished at the speed with which the Pakistan government is completing its part of the passage,” said Randhawa.

The minister said he doubted the intentions of the Union government. “I hope it doesn’t turns out to be a mere announcement. The PM should ask the NHAI to complete work within a stipulated timeframe. Engineers and architects should be identified and asked to commence work immediately. The NHAI is working at a snail’s pace,” he said.
