New Delhi, February 7

Days after India proposed two sets of dates for talks with Pakistan to finalise the Kartarpur corridor draft, Islamabad today said it will send across its team on March 13 for discussions. The Ministry of External Affairs had last month proposed February 26 and March 7 for talks.

An official confirmation is awaited on the new date proposed by the Pakistan ministry of foreign affairs, which has also suggested that the Indian delegation travel across the border for follow-up talks on March 28.

Earlier today, the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan also approved the formation of a special committee “to oversee the development in Kartarpur and Nankana Sahib”. Governor of Punjab  Ch Mohammad Sarwar will head the committee.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, in consultations held in New Delhi this week, hoped that India would share a draft agreement with Pakistan and complete legal modalities for the 4-km-long corridor sacred to Sikh pilgrims within a month. It discussed ways to fast-track the implementation of the project ahead of the 550th anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev this year.
