Owner of pit bulls arrested

KHARAR: The Mullanpur Garibdass police have arrested the owner of two pit bull dogs, who injured a youth on July 27. She was released on bail. The owner has been identified as Manjit Kaur, a resident of Takipur village.

The Mullanpur Garibdass police have arrested the owner of two pit bull dogs, who injured a youth on July 27. She was released on bail.

The owner has been identified as Manjit Kaur, a resident of Takipur village. 

Mullanpur Garibdass SHO Gurbant Singh said the police had registered a case under Sections 289 and 337 of the IPC against Manjit Kaur.  “As it was a bailable offence, she was arrested and released on bail,” he said. 

Amritpal Singh (23), a resident of Takipur village, was seriously injured after the pit bulls attacked him. According to Amritpal’s family, the victim received 65 stitches.

The Punjab and Haryana Hight Court took suo motu cognisance of the matter and issued a notice to Punjab, Haryana and the UT Administration. 

Meanwhile, Amritpal will have to remain bedridden for a month to recuperate.

Talking to The Tribune, Amritpal said he would have to visit Government Multi Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh, daily for a check-up. 

Narrating the incident, he said around 6.30 am, he went out for a walk on the road. The main gate of his neighbour was open and two pit bulls came out and attacked him. He claimed that the dogs had attacked at least five persons during the past three months. 

Mohali DC calls special meeting

Mohali: Following directives of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the pit bull attack case, Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan has called a special meeting to check preventive measures taken by the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to avoid pet attacks. The DC has been directed by the High Court to file an affidavit in this regard. The court had also asked the Mohali administration to explain provisions for the issuance of licence/registration, if any, to the owner of the two pit bull dogs, whohad attacked the 23-year-old youth.
