Over 4K schools to be made smart: Soni

AMRITSAR: More than 4,000 government schools in the state will be converted into smart schools till March 2019, announced School Education Minister OP Soni during a cycle distribution function, under Mai Bhago scheme, at Government Girls’ Senior Secondary Smart School, Mall Road, on Friday.

More than 4,000 government schools in the state will be converted into smart schools till March 2019, announced School Education Minister OP Soni during a cycle distribution function, under Mai Bhago scheme, at Government Girls’ Senior Secondary Smart School, Mall Road, on Friday.

Soni, MLA Sunil Dutti and MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla gave cycles to 940 girls during the event. As many as 11,085 female students of Amritsar district will be given cycles under the scheme. Soni said, “More than 2,300 schools have been converted into smart ones till date. Above 4,000 are expected to be developed into smart ones till March 2019.”

Soni said, “One of the primary objectives of the government is to inculcate study interest in girl students.” He stated that under the Mai Bhago Scheme, the Department of Social Security and Development of Women & Children, Punjab government, would give 1,38,000 free cycles to girl students of Classes XI and XII in government schools with a net expenditure of Rs 40 crore.

MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla announced, a grant Rs 2 lakh for development work at the school. DEO (Secondary Education) Salwinder Singh Samra, Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School, Mall Road, Principal Mandeep Kaur, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Vikas Soni, Umant and Shivdarshan Singh were present. — TNS
