Sangrur, June 9
A joint rescue operation by different agencies is under way even as 76 hours have passed since two-year-old Fatehveer Singh fell into 150-ft deep borewell outside his house on Sunam-Sheron road in Bhagwanpura.
A parallel 36-inch diameter borewell has been dug out to pull the child out. The operation is being carried out by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Armed Engineer, Patiala; and Sangrur administration,
However, the lack of required expertise apparently delayed the operation. Due The administration took the help of private persons to dig a parallel borewell while the followers of Dera Sacha Sauda, Sirsa, also chipped in.
The rescue operation was halted for five hours till 9 am due to some issues in parallel borewell, which has been dug till 127 ft and a pipe with a window has been installed. Authorities have plans to retrieve Fatehveer through that widow of parallel borewell after cutting the old borewell from beneath.
“The Sangrur administration and state government have failed to make required arrangements and Fatehveer is still stuck in the borewell. The Punjab CM must intervene,” said Harpal Cheema, Leader of Opposition.
Some area residents accused the authorities of adopting a non-serious attitude.
Two ambulance with a ventilator have been stationed near the spot while a rush of residents from surrounding villages is also increasing.
"Our team is ready and immediately after pulling Fateh out, we would take him to hospital," said Dr Manjit Singh, civil surgeon, Sangrur.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla denied the allegations and said he was satisfied with the rescue operation.
“The operation remained suspended due to technical issues. It's taking time as NDRF say it's a tough operation for them. Our CM Capt Amrinder Singh and all administration are taking required steps. There should not be any politics over it,” said Singla.
Hoping to see his son Fatehveer alive , his father Sukhminder Singh other family members have refused to move away from digging site.
Fateh fell into borewell into 150ft deep borewell on Thursday evening while playing outside his house.
