The multi-talented singer, lyricist and composer, Amaal Mallik is all set to make his debut on television as a judge in Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs new season. Here is what he has to say about the show:

How do you feel to be a part of a singing reality show for kids?

I feel honoured. This season is very special for me as I will be foraying into TV as a judge and I am looking forward to sharing space alongside dignitaries like Richa Sharma and Shaan. 

What is different this year that the viewers can expect from the show?

The young kids are extremely talented and gifted this year. It’s going to be a tough competition. 

What would be your area of focus as a judge?

As a composer and judge of the show, I will be focusing more on guiding the kids and sharpening their skills. I will be an elder brother, a friend to them, but at the same time give them an honest feedback.

What are the key things that you will be looking for in a contestant?

I will be looking out for a good melodious voice. Ultimately, I want the viewers to hear the performance. 

What’s your advice to aspiring young singers?

At times, kids try and pretend to be something they are not, so my advice to them is to be natural and true to themselves. 

Tell us about your journey in the industry.

Before getting a big break with Jai Ho, I did many television title tracks, jingles and assisted Pritam Chakraborty, Salim-Sulaiman and Sandip Chowta. So, success was not easy. I worked hard to reach here.

Who is your favourite singer in Bollywood?

Armaan Malik and Arijit Singh are my all-time favourite singers.
