The district police have arrested one of the biggest suppliers of intoxicants in the state after much struggle. So far, the suspect was evading arrest from the last two month. His name figured during questioning of one of his agents, who was arrested by the police on March 30.
The suspect was nabbed from outside his house in Chander Puri Colony, near DRM Office in Ambala Cantt, by the CIA staff in charge Inspector Amarpal Kaur, when he was about to flee in his car. The police recovered 4,000 buprenorphine and 4,000 avil injections from his car.
Addressing mediapersons here today, SSP Amneet Kondal said the Mulepur police had arrested one peddler identified as Hemant Kumar, alias Honey, and recovered buprenorphine and avil injections from him on March 30.
The SSP said during interrogation Hemant revealed that he worked as agent of one Pulkit, alias Pankaj, alias Rubal, a resident of Chander Puri Colony, near DRM Office in Ambala Cantt.
Pulkit had many agents, who supplied intoxicants in different parts of Punjab, the SSP added. A team led by SP (Investigation) Harpal Singh, DSP (I) and CIA in charge was constituted to arrest him, she added.
The police got a tip-off that the suspect had come home, she said. As soon as Pulkit sat in his Etios car (number HR-42C-8522) the police nabbed him and recovered 4,000 buprenorphine and 4,000 avil injections, she added.
During preliminary interrogation Pulkit revealed that he was supplying drugs through his agents from the last three years in Punjab, the SSP said. The suspect further revealed that he had purchased intoxicants worth Rs 5 lakh from Agra, the SSP added.
“We will try to find all sources from where the suspect procures drugs and to whom he supplies after getting his police remand. More agents are likely to be arrested,” the SSP said.
