National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah today lashed out at PDP president Mehbooba Mufti over her “garbage” remark.

“I was amused to hear the statement of Mehbooba Mufti today when she asked youth of Kashmir to join the PDP because it is free of garbage now,” he said while addressing a party meeting here.

In Bijbehara today, Mehbooba while addressing a gathering termed party deserters as “garbage.” Seeking forgiveness for her “toffee” remark, she also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi lost an opportunity to address the Kashmir issue.

“What kind of language is this? Is this only for winning elections and deceiving people?” Omar questioned Mehbooba.

Claiming that the NC did not approve of such language, he said, “We never used such language against those who left our party”.

Welcoming former PDP leaders Mehboob Iqbal and Shahid Mughal in the NC, Omar asked people of the state to give the party support to get rid of coalition politics.

Meanwhile, Omar expressed his unhappiness on the presence of party leaders from Kashmir in the Jammu event and asked them to return to their constituencies.

He said, “If you want to win elections and for the betterment of the state, book your tickets back to Srinagar and work for the downtrodden, poor and youth of the state.”
