Gym jao, dole banao, te phone na uthao is the crux of latest single Gym Boyz by Millind Gaba and King Kaazi. The foot-tapping song that released on Tuesday is touted to be the very first gym anthem in Hindi/Punjabi.
The duo is ecstatic as the hits on Youtube touch a 22,60986 views and counting. “I don’t gamble on the same cards again and again, but love experimenting and want each of my song to be different than the other,” opens up Milind Gaba, who totally relates to the situation in the latest number. “My work being such that the phone is forever buzzing and dedicating time to work-out is rather tough,” he accepts.
“We are doing everything in the gym – talking, checking social media, clicking selfies or recording videos for Instagram stories - no wonder dole nahi ban rahe (not getting the biceps),” laughs King Kaazi. So, stems the number from the very real life situation. “The theme – give single-minded devotion to your exercise regimen keeping the phone aside whether it’s your mummy calling or girl friend,” the duo says.
Shot in Chandigarh, this is one song with a club feel to it, is presented by Anup Kumar and the music is by Ullumanati. The happy, peppy music video is directed by Team Raw Eye for Saga music. Question the young duo on objectification of women, they tread cautiously, “We try to keep it clean.” Pointing out at their latest video, they justify, “With all due respect to women, there is a slight flash of dream sequence bringing the focus back to gym emphasising on how there is no substitute to fitness,” explains King Kaazi.
“One must take songs as a form of entertainment. There is too much emphasis on not having ‘liquor’ or ‘weapons’ in songs these days but trust me music is a fun vocation, it cannot put any sane person on wrong track,” says Milind citing example of Ye Jo Halka Halka Suroor by legend Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and or Apna Punjab Hove/Ghar Di Sharaab Hove...by another legend Gurdas Maan.
“I agree, he also sang Kudiye kismat pudhiye tenu ina pyar daen/ Apne hise di duniya main tethon vaar daen – different music to reflect different moods,” he says.
