Transport commissioner SP Vaid on Friday inaugurated the e-challan project that will help in improving service access and transparency in the system.

Vaid said it was a data-integrated system linked with ‘Vahan’ and ‘Sarathi’ applications, which cover all major functions of the transport and traffic enforcement wings with a number of user-friendly features.

He expressed hope that the project would bring transparency, accountability and swiftness in the existing system and provide ease of operations for the transport enforcement officers and traffic policemen to increase visibility in operations.

The transport commissioner said J&K had become the sixth state in the country to implement the e-challan project. He said connecting all stakeholders through a common system would ensure data integrity, reliability and transparency in traffic management.

He said e-challan had offerings for multiple stakeholders and the state transport department would improve their support in maintaining compliance for citizens.

Meanwhile, Vaid hailed the National Informatics Centre (NIC) J&K, State Informatics Officer Abhey Kumar and scientist E Rakesh Gupta, who presented a PowerPoint presentation regarding the features and technicalities of e-challaning. He also thanked HDFC Bank vice-president Zubair Iqbal for collaborating with the transport department for the execution of this project.

Vaid expressed satisfaction on improving the visibility and efficient monitoring on offenders, types of offences frequently committed, payments received on time, less physical chasing, digitisation and documentations of records.

  • The facility is being delivered through an Android-based mobile application and web portal
  • The mobile app will provide instant access to information and ease of operation for the enforcement officers
  • Online challan payments will also ensure ease of compliance for violators
