A day-long free anti-rabies vaccination and awareness camp was organised at College of Veterinary Science of the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Rampura Phul, in city.
The event was organised in collaboration with Virbac Animal Health India Pvt Ltd and aimed at introducing newly-opened veterinary hospital of the college to the local pet owners. The camp also created awareness regarding the importance of anti-rabies vaccination prophylaxis. It was attended by more than 50 pet owners from surrounding villages. They got their pets vaccinated and dewormed for free. Doctors from the college also gave tips to animal lovers during the camp and counselling was provided on feed and care of their pets.
Dr GS Dhaliwal, college dean, while discussing the importance of deworming and ant-rabies vaccine, said these things were often neglected by pet owners and were major major causes for other diseases in pets. He said rabies was a dreadful disease and vaccination was mandatory for pet dogs to safeguard the family and human population.
The dean said pets should not only be vaccinated against rabies but also against dreadful diseases such as parvom canine hepatitis, canine distemper, for which vaccination was easily available in the local market.
