Amritsar, December 6

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Ranjit Avenue police station was compulsory retired from service after an investigating team found him negligent in his work.

As per orders of Police Commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill, ASI Jatinder Singh kept investigations of over 130 cases, including heinous crimes, pending for unnecessary reasons thereby benefitting the criminal elements. The police officials had even passed instructions to him from time to time for getting the investigations in these cases completed and present challan in the court. But he allegedly did not mend his ways.

This is the first case of its kind in the past one decade. ASI Jatinder Singh had completed 30 years of his service. The order pointed out that it would not be in the public interest to continue him in the service. His acts had brought disrepute to the police department.

A three member departmental committee was formed to probe into the charges against him. The committee also found him guilty of keeping investigations pending for unnecessary reasons. This not only proves his irresponsible behaviour but also points towards corrupt attitude.

The Police Commissioner compulsory retired him on December 4.
