Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur paid tributes to the founder of Constitution Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, on his 64th death anniversary by paying floral tributes at his statue at Ambedkar Chowk here today.
Interacting with media on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Dr Ambedkar was the architect of the Constitution of India. An eminent jurist, he laid the foundation of democracy in India and worked continuously for socio-economic equality in the Indian society.
He was also a noted economist, politician and social reformer who worked for the uplift of poor and downtrodden. He also campaigned against social discrimination towards untouchables, he added.
Artistes of the Information and Public Relations Department recited Bhajans of the occasion. Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, MLAs Kishori Lal and Rakesh Singha, Mayor Kusum Sadrate, Deputy Mayor Rakesh Sharma and people from all walks of life paid tributes to Dr Ambedkar on his death anniversary.
