Chief Electoral Officer, J&K and Ladakh, Shailendra Kumar was the chief guest. An electoral literacy club for future voters was also started. A vibrant and educative programme was presented by the school students.

Army gives furniture to school

The Army, in its continued effort to improve the infrastructure of schools located in remote and backward areas, provided furniture items to Government Middle School, Salheri, Rajouri. The project was initiated on the request of village head, teaching staff of the school and the locals. Speaking on the occasion, the school principal expressed his gratitude to the Army and said with the availability of these essential items, the students would be able to study better.

Benchmark series lecture at JU

The 10th lecture of the benchmark under the RUSA-Phase II was organised on "Recent debates in the Indian prehistory arising from research in Tamil Nadu". The speaker was Prof Shanti Pappu, an eminent archaeologist-cum-historian of international repute. Prof Pappu spoke about the debates in the Indian prehistory, based on recent research in this field, arising from recent archaeological, geochronological and other studies set against the background of the story of human evolution. The importance of the study of stone tools was highlighted, for which a short clip was prepared by Kumar Akhilesh of the Sharma Centre for Heritage Education. 

Gymnastics competition

A Class VII student of Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar, clinched gold and silver medals in a gymnastics competition held in Telangana. In all, 16 states participated in the competition organised by the Sports Aerobics and Fitness Association of Telangana. Nirmal Sharma, school incharge, appreciated the feat in the morning assembly. Principal Rameshwar Mengi congratulated him for his achievement.

Photography workshop ends

A three-day photography workshop organised by the department of students’ welfare, Jammu University, concluded on Friday. It was attended by the students of JU departments and its affiliated colleges. The workshop was conducted by eminent photographers Chander Sunder and Ashok Gupta. Students learnt about the different aspects of photography during the workshop. 

Alumni meet organised

An alumni meet was organized by the 1st J&K Armed Squadron NCC and the girls’ wing of Government Degree College, Kathua. Inaugurating the event, principal Prof Assa Ram Sharma appreciated the efforts of the NCC for organising such an event. On the occasion, Lt Col Rajinder Singh Rathore, NCC alumni, delivered a motivational speech and encouraged the cadets to do a lot of training for better future. 

Students get career tips 

Heritage School held a career counselling workshop for Class X and XII students. The two-day workshop concluded on Friday. The aim was to assist the students in the choice of subjects to be taken in Class XI. The workshop was conducted by Gurpreet Singh from the Jammu University. He apprised the students of courses available in streams like science, commerce and humanities.
