Stuck women can dial cops for ride back home

CHANDIGARH:Amid growing concerns over women safety, Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh today announced free police help to women safely home if they were stranded outside between 9 pm and 6 am.

Amid growing concerns over women safety, Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh today announced free police help to drop women safely home if they were stranded outside between 9 pm and 6 am.

The statewide facility will be available at helpline numbers 100, 112 and 181 through which the woman caller will be connected to the police control room. The CM has directed DGP Dinkar Gupta to ensure its effective implementation.

The pick-up and drop facility will be available to women who do not have access to a safe vehicle, including taxi or three-wheeler. A woman police officer will be present during the transit. The directions come amid furore over the recent rape and murder in Hyderabad .  — TNS

  • A woman police officer will accompany the caller during the transit

  • DSP/ACP (crime against women) to be nodal officer for the scheme in each district

  • Their numbers to be available on Punjab Govt and Punjab Police websites

  • Dedicated PCR vehicles to be made available for the facility
