11 food samples collected for testing

Food Safety Officer Satnam Singh along with a team of Food Administration, Kapurthala, headed by Dr Harjot Pal Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Food, carried out a drive against people selling spurious milk and milk products (MMP) and other food items today under the Tandarust Punjab mission.

This was stated by Kapurthala Civil Surgeon Jasmeet Bawa here today.

She said during the checking, the team inspected a Mahindra Bolero Pik-up vehicle carrying about 1.2 tonnes of desi ghee of various brands manufactured in Haryana, for supply to Gurdaspur. Three samples of various brands of ghee were seized which will be sent to laboratory for testing.

A Tata 407 vehicle carrying around two quintals of desi ghee, along with toned milk, was also intercepted. A sample of the same was also taken. Samples of mustard oil desi ghee were also seized from another vehicles.

Later, the team inspected restaurant and shops in Nadala and Begowal and took samples for testing.

A total of 11 samples, including desi ghee paneer, milk, mustard oil and besan, were collected today. The samples have been sent to the State Food Laboratory, Kharar. The Civil Surgeon said the drive would be continued in future also to ensure availability of healthy, safe and nutritious food items to the public.
