85 farmers nabbed in Jind, 29 in Fatehabad

The district administration in Fatehabad, Jind and Sirsa has started arresting farmers found burning paddy straw.

In all, 85 farmers have been arrested in Jind, 29 in Fatehabad and 18 in Sirsa under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC. They were, however, released on bail.

The Fatehabad police have registered 448 cases against farmers. Ratia SDM Surender Beniwal on Thursday rushed to a spot in Brahamanwala village following a complaint of stubble burning and ordered registration of a case against farmer Jagmel Singh, brother of the village “nambardar”.

Satellite images captured 26 spots of crop fires in Fatehabad district and 11 spots in Sirsa district.

In Jind district, the administration on Thursday registered 113 cases against farmers, taking the total to 429 cases so far.

Bhiwani SP Ganga Ram Punia said the district police had registered two cases related to the burning of crop residue.

The air quality in Jind, Hisar and Fatehabad districts was “very poor” on Thursday.
