Shimla, November 21
The world today needs “Karuna”, without which violence occurs. “Ahimsa” can help one overcome his/her suffering. This was stated by the Dalai Lama, while delivering a lecture on “Universal Ethics”, at the India International Centre (IIC), Max Mueller Marg, New Delhi.
Speaking at the 24th Radhakrishnan Memorial Lecture (RKML), organised by the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Rashtrapati Nivas, Shimla, he said as far as external things were concerned, modern science had been developed so much, but when it came to internal peace, only ancient Indian knowledge could enlighten seekers.
“Your enemy who criticises you is your best teacher. Buddhism always teaches us to remain open towards assessment of the inner self,” the Tibetan spiritual leader said.
“Ancient Indian knowledge of “Karuna”, inner psychology, peace of mind and spirituality should also be included in school curricula. By emphasising on teaching these subjects not only religiously, but also academically, we will be able nurture better human beings in society,” he said.
The Dalai Lama also took up questions from the audience.
