Himachal Pradesh Technical University is an autonomous body capable of taking decisions for its development and smooth running, said Vice Chancellor Prof SP Bansal here today.

The university had received a communication from the Finance Department with directives on financial matters from the state secretariat, asking the university to seek prior permission on financial matters. Bansal said the university was established under the university Act and its autonomy could not be challenged. He said the second convocation of the university would be organised on November 28 in which 398 students would be awarded degrees. He said 15 gold medals and 14 silver medals would be given to the meritorious students by Governor Bandaru Dattatreya. He said Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur would also be present on the occasion.

Bansal said the university would shift to its campus at Daruhi village on December 6 when its administrative block would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. “Over Rs34 crore have been spent so far on the construction of HPTU buildings and the university will soon have an e-library and web studio on the new campus to help teachers record their lectures,” he said.

Bansal said the affiliation of two colleges was cancelled in the state for not meeting the standards of the university, while a few more institutions were granted affiliations.
