Sangrur, November 21

In a good news for residents of seven colonies of Sangrur city, Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla today started work to construct Railway Under Bridge (RUB) at the cost of Rs 5.25 crore on the Barnala road.

He said work was on to construct total 25 Railway Over Bridges (ROB) and 14 Railway Under Bridges at various places.

“At present the residents of Ajit Nagar, Ram Nagar and other surrounding colonies had to go through ROB, but after the construction of RUB, their problem will be eased,” said Darshan Singh Kangra, local Congress leader.

Singla said a special committee of Public Works Department officials had identified 39 locations on various roads in the state where residents were facing frequent traffic jams.

“In August, I had taken up the issue with Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. The Union Railway Ministry gives grant for ROB and RUB only where traffic density is more than one lakh train vehicle unit. The process to construct all ROBs and RUBs is at various stages,” the minister said.

The roads where ROBs and RUBs will be constructed include Kartarpur-Kapurthala road, Aujala railway crossing-Kala Sangian road, Kapurthala-Subhanpur, Adampur-Bhogpur, Dhakki-Chakki Bank in Jalandhar city, Pathanakot-Sujanpur, internal road Baradari garden Patiala, Patiala-Dhablan road, Rajpura Yard, Dhulkot-Lalru, Lalru-Dappar, Dapper-Ghaggar, Ghaggar-Chandigarh, GT road to Sirhind city via Khanpur, Sirhind-Morinda road, Bathinda city road, bus stand Mansa to Railway crossing road, Ferozpur-Zira, Abohar-Sitoguno-Dabwali, Bathinda-Ferozpur Cantt and Amritsar-Khem Karan at Chugatiladwal on Jalandhar-Pathankot rail track.

“The government wants to control the number of accidents. While finalising ROBs and RUBs, accident-prone areas are also taken care of,” the minister added.
