Fatehgarh Sahib, November 21

The district police have booked four persons for allegedly assaulting a youth and his fiancee inside Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib. No arrest has been made so far.

A case under Sections 354A, 323, 341, 506 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the accused, one of them identified as Ishwar Singh, on the complaint of the victim, Jaspreet Singh (21), a resident of Talwara village.

Manager of the gurdwara Natha Singh has also lodged a complaint with the SSP against the miscreants for violating the “maryada” by thrashing the devotees and uploading a video of the incident on the social media.

As per the FIR, the victim said he along with his fiance had gone to Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to pay obeisance. “We were sitting at Bhora Sahib, when two unidentified persons dressed as Nihangs came to us and asked me to come outside the gurdwara. As I came outside, they took me towards the sarovar inside the gurdwara and started making queries about the girl. When I told them that she is my fiancee, they asked me to get it verified from our parents. I called up my mother and she told them about our engagement but they didn’t believe her and started thrashing me mercilessly. As my fiancee came to save me, they snatched her dupatta and tore her clothes. In the meantime, people gathered there and the miscreants fled,” the victim stated.

He alleged that as he was going to drop her fiancee, they again gheraoed them and two more persons joined them and started beating them. Fatehgarh Sahib SHO GS Sikand said the police were investigating and the culprits would be arrested soon.
