A Pakistani national was repatriated as a goodwill gesture via Teetwal in frontier Kupwara district, the police said.

Shabir Ahmad, son of Mir Wali, a resident of Pajkote, Pakistan, was arrested near Dilar check post in Karnah on May 18, 2019, when he had crossed over into the Indian territory without seeking requisite permission.

Accordingly, a case was registered at the Karnah police station and the individual was taken to the hospital for medical examination where doctors reported that the said individual suffered from a mental/psychotic disorder, a police spokesman said.

“The Central Government was approached to take up the matter with Pakistan so as to facilitate his return. After fulfilling legal formalities, today as a goodwill gesture, he was handed over to Pakistan via Teetwal,” he said. — TNS
