DPS, Zirakpur, organised an educational visit for Classes I to VIII on the National Press Day to The Tribune. The students were taken to the production department, where they were shown the CTP (Computer to the plate), the machine that transfers all the news and pictures (in digital format) to be printed, on a metal printing plate. They were also explained how this is then printed on rolls of paper, which are uniformly cut to the standard size and counted. This is done with the 'striker' machine. Thereafter, the bundling is done with the 'strapper' machine. Lastly, students were brimmed with questions about The Tribune newspaper and about the output of the machines. They were informed that the output of each machine is 35,000-50,000 copies per hour and 5 lakh copies are printed daily. It was a great learning experience for everyone 

Gurukul Global School, Chandigarh

Chandigarh: A weight-management session was organised at Gurukul Global School by the school doctor Dr Indu Chopra Parents were also invited for the same. The parents consulted the dietician about the problems related to over-weight and under-weight children . A well designed diet plan and a set of physical exercise was advised to the parents for their children. The students also had certain queries related to the diet plan and how to control weight. Their queries were well answered. It was a beneficial session for the students as well as the parents.

Carmel Convent SCHOOL

The annual sports day for the primary wing was celebrated today with great pomp and show at Carmel Convent School. The chief guest for the occasion was Chiranjee Lal Mudgil, Inspector, with the Chandigarh Traffic Police, who is the only person from Chandigarh to have successfully scaled Mt Everest. The event was an amalgamation of aerobics, drills, yoga, and track events that were brought together with a finesse that drew huge applause from the parents. The day began with a wonderful display by the school band, followed by a welcome dance in which the grade V participated. This was followed by a flag drill by grade I students, umbrella drill by grade II, hoola hoop drill by grade III, aerobics drill by grade IV, and races, yoga, and a taekwondo display by selected students from all primary classes. The event ended with the school band playing the National Anthem, and a vote of thanks to all who were involved in making the event a success. TNS
