Chandigarh, November 21

Parents of the students at Gurukul Global School in Mani Majra, are up in arms against the school authorities, as they have raised an objection over the school for ‘arbitrarily’ charging fee from all students for organising sports day.

The parents, through a lawyer, made a complaint to the UT Education Secretary, demanding the Education Department to direct the school not to charge students for organising sports day and also to refund the money already collected from the them.

The school had issued a notice on November 14, to inform that the sports day will be organised at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula. The notice mentions that the students need to pay a participation fee of Rs 550 for dance and cultural activities and Rs 350 for march past and mass PT.

The parents said if the school goes ahead with their decision to charge fee for the sports day, the school should provide detailed information regarding expenditure to the UT Administration so that an audit can be carried out.

School principal Urvashi Kakkar said, “It is a school sports day and there are logistic charges; we need to pay for that as well. Since we are hosting the event outside the school, we have to pay for the venue too. The fee includes hiring charges of the stadium for three days, hiring of generator, sound system and refreshments.”
