Jalandhar, November 20

The Health Department organised an awareness seminar on vector-borne diseases at Government High School, Rainak Bazaar, under Tandarust Punjab mission here on Wednesday. District Epidemiologist Satish Kumar from the District Health Department was the keynote speaker on the occasion.

Dr Satish Kumar said the disease was transmitted by the bite of Aedes mosquito that usually targets during the daytime.

Kumar said severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscles, and joint pains were the symptoms of the disease. The Aedes mosquito breeds in coolers, water storage containers, tyres, overhead tanks and places where rainwater collects or was stored.

He asked teachers and students to motivate people to keep all water-storage containers covered, besides old tyres, broken pots, crockery should be removed.

He said insecticides, petrol, and kerosene must be sprayed in coolers and containers  once a week, which could not be emptied or cleaned. He also encouraged the students and teachers to wear full sleeves clothes. — TNS
