Congman booked in assault case

Kulbir Singh, a local Congress leader and sarpanch of Longiwind village, and his associates have been booked for allegedly attacking a government contractor and his staff in a bid to take control over a mining site at Baasian village.

While two accused have been nabbed, the Congress leader is evading arrest.

Those named in the FIR are Harbans Singh, Andeep Singh, Manjinder Singh, Gurjit Singh, Surjit Singh and eight others.

The incident took place on Saturday when the accused attacked the contractor and his staff with automatic weapons. Although no one was reported injured in the incident, the attackers indiscriminately fired shots in the air to create terror, police officials said.
