Chandigarh: A 40-year-old garbage collector was found dead on the road separating Sector 38 and 25 on Thursday. The police have ruled out any foul play in the incident. The victim has been identified as Deep Chand, a resident of Sector 38. Passersby saw him lying on the road and informed the police. Cops rushed the victim to the GMSH-16, where doctors declared him brought dead. The police said the victim had no injury marks on his body. The victim is survived by his wife and a 12-year-old son. Cyclist hit by car, injured 

Chandigarh: A cyclist was injured after being hit by a car in Sector 11. The car driver sped away from the spot. According to the police, complainant Mangleshwar Parsad reported that an Alto car sped away after hitting the cyclist near the Sector 11 market. The victim, Sanjay Kumar of UP, was seriously hurt and admitted to the PGI. The registration number of the car was noted down by the complainant and provided to the police. TNS 

Woman held with injections

Chandigarh: The police have arrested a 38-year-old woman with banned injections. The police said Savitri, a resident of Sector 25, was nabbed near the Sector 38/38W/39/40 chowk with 19 banned vials. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against her. TNS

Smuggling of weapons: 1 held

Ambala: The police have arrested Shubham, alias Bigni, of Hisar on the charge of smuggling weapons, officials said here on Thursday. According to the police, an unclaimed bag, containing 3 pistols, 9 live cartridges and two chilli sprays, was found from a Haryana Roadways bus in Parava on July 5. During investigation, it was found that the bag belonged to Shubham. The suspect was remanded to two-day police custody. TNS

Woman held for immigration fraud

Ambala: The police have arrested Ranjit Kaur, alias Khushi, in a case of immigration fraud, officials said here on Thursday. According to the police, a local woman reported on August 17 that the suspect, along with her four accomplices, including two women, had taken a huge sum of money from her on the promise of sending her abroad. However, neither they kept their promise nor returned her money. The suspect was produced before a court, which remanded her to two-day police custody, the officials said. TNS

Inmates arrested with cell phones

Ambala: Two inmates lodged in the Central Jail here were held with two mobile phones, batteries and SIM cards, the police said here on Thursday. According to information, Central Jail Deputy Superintendent Vishal had reported to the police that two mobile phones with batteries and SIM cards were recovered from jail inmates Anil and Naveen, alias Bholu, during routine checking of their cells on November 13. The police have registered a case and begun investigations, the officials said. TNS

Married woman goes missing

Ambala: A 34-year-old married woman had reportedly gone missing from her home, the police said here on Thursday. According to information, Vijay Kumar of Parav had reported to the police that his wife left home on November 12, but did not return yet. The police have lodged a missing report and launched a manhunt to trace the woman, the officials said. TNS

Seven booked on assault charge

Zirakpur: The police have booked seven persons on the charge of assault over a land dispute in Zirakpur. The complainant, a resident of Ludhiana, told the police that the accused tried to take the possession of the land forcibly from him and his partner. He stated that when they tried to stop them from taking the possession of the land, the suspects beat them up and also threatened them with dire consequences. The police have registered a case against the suspects. OC

Blood donation camp in Sec 19

Chandigarh: To mark the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev, the Sadar Bazar Market Committee, staff of the Sector 19 police station and Shiv Kanwar Mahasangh Charitable Trust jointly organised a blood donation camp at the Sadar Bazar market in Sector 19 here on Thursday. Narinder Singh Rinku, president of the committee, said UT SSP Nilambari Jagdale was the chief guest. TNS
