Chandigarh, November 14
The Rotary Chandigarh Shivalik (RCS) presented scholarships worth Rs 2.2 lakh to 11 visually challenged college and university students during a function held in Sector 7 here today.
Funds have been raised through ‘Rotary Dinner in the Dark’ held in 2019. Part of the funds also came through a number of people pledging additional support to the RCS.
AK Dua, former secretary, Chandigarh Social Welfare Board, was the chief guest. He handed over the first installment cheque for Rs 10,000 each to the students. The second installment of Rs 10,000 will be given after results of the first semester are out.
Students entitled to scholarship are Sourab Southa (Late Col Harsharan Sandhu Scholarship), Manoj Kumar (Late HS Malik Scholarship), Neeru (Late Sarabjit Singh Scholarship), Rizwan Ansari (Late Col Bimal Jain Scholarship), Varun (Late Lt Col Ajeet Singh Judge Scholarship), Nisha (Late Mrs Bimla Devi Laroia Scholarship), Tsering Chosphel (Late Col Inderjeet Reen Scholarship), Harish Kumar Pandey (Late Bimla Devi Scholarship), Sajan Singh (Late Dr Surinder Singh and Dr Gurdeep Kaur Scholarship), Gurjot Singh (Harish and Rama Bhanot Scholarship) and Rajat Batra (Neerja Bhanot Scholarship). — TNS
