‘Kids should get space to play’

Delivering “Guru Talk” at Shoolini University, Vivek Mohan, a National Award winner, said governments must provide enough space for children to play, particularly in the hilly areas. He said there was an urgent need to provide open spaces in parks and playgrounds to keep children occupied and away from mobiles and nefarious activities.  Vivek, who hails from Shimla and is based in Mumbai, depicted the plight of children through a docu-drama “Shivaji Park of Shimla”. The 22-minute film depicted children playing on The Ridge. 

State-level painting contest

Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj presided over the state-level painting competition organised by the SJVN under the national awareness campaign on energy conservation. The competition was organised in two categories — Category ‘A’ for classes IV to VI students on the theme “Spare a watt save a lot and turn off the light when outside it’s bright” and Category ‘B’ for classes VII to IX students on the topic “It pays to be energy efficient and its in your favour to be energy saver”. Bhardwaj appreciated the efforts of students, their parents and teachers in propagation of message of energy conservation”. Karan Kumar of DAV-Lakkar Bazaar, Shimla and Anmol Verma of DPS-Manali won the first prize in categories A and B, respectively. 

Exam for posts of jr office assistant

The written objective test examination for 13 posts of junior office assistant (information technology), advertised by Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, in August will be held on November 24. The duration of the test will be 90 minutes. The test will also have negative marking. The university has advised all candidates to download admit cards from the university’s website www.yspuniversity.ac.in. The candidates will also have to bring a photo identity card, along with a hard copy of the admit card.  Over 3,100 candidates have applied.

Children’s Day celebrated

Children’s Day was celebrated at Army Public School, Dagshai, where speeches highlighting the contribution of the nation’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as well as his love for children were delivered. A cultural programme was presented by children. Principal Dr SK Mishra said in the present times, it was necessary to be innovative and creative. 

Wildlife film festival 

HIMCOSTE in association with CMSR Foundation, Delhi, held a two-day wildlife film festival at Government Senior Secondary School, Bilaspur. As many as 1,000 students participated in the festival. The students presented their models and projects on various subjects ranging from climate change, water conservation, garbage management and bio-diversity. Bilaspur  DC Rajeshwar Goel inaugurated the festival.  Narender Yadav from CMSR Foundation gave his presentation on various aspects of environment conservation and Swachh Bharat Mission.

Fancy dress competition 

Children’s Day was celebrated at MCM-DAV Public School, Bhagni (Nurpur). A fancy dress competition was held. Children dressed as Army officers, Radha-Krishna, brides, fairies and Jhansi Ki Rani. Various cultural programmes were also presented by the students. The highlight of the programme was giddha by primary students. Principal MR Rana appreciated the students’ efforts.
