To mark the celebrations of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, members of the Kila Raipur Youth Sports Club (KRYSC), have decided to set up a library to introduce villagers, especially youth, to the world of books.

The foundation stone of the library building was laid on the occasion of Gurpurab by the Panj Payaras who led the nagar kirtan at the village. Named as ‘Kitab Ghar’ (home of books), it will be constructed at the youth club’s park and will accommodate 20 to 25 readers.

Dilpreet Singh Grewal, one of the KRYSC members, said, “Guru Nanak’s teaching of contributing to society motivated the club members, including several NRIs from the village, to set up the library in the village.”

“If you visit any village of Punjab, you will come across several temples. But rarely will you find any library which can offer so much to the villagers. So we decided to establish a library at the village where books and magazines on different subjects will be available. We may require Rs 7-8 lakh to set up the library. Many NRIs from the village, many of whom are former club members, will be funding us. Money will be collected from locals also,” he said.

“We are quite positive that once the library doors are open, it will be appreciated for by all,” he further added.

Gian Singh Ginni, village sarpanch, appreciated the venue chosen for the library. “The idea is borrowed from Seoul, South Korea, where the local government had brought libraries to parks and playgrounds as per their new development model. When you bring books right in a park or a playground, more youngsters can connect to the world of books.”
